Mari Mahr
Mari Mahr is a Hungarian-British photographer. She takes most of her photos in either London or Berlin, though. The composition of her images are flawless and they are beautifully presented, making them pleasing to look at. She creates harsh contrast lines by using black and white filters. As displayed, she also uses snowy landscapes quite often which looks truly majestic, it is refreshing to see as I generally only see snow a couple of times per year which makes the scenery in her images more exciting to me. Out of these three photos in particular though, my favourite is the image in the middle because it displays significant creativity as she uses props as a visual metaphor; both stars and lightbulbs dispense light.
Journey inspired pinterest board
The photographs on this board are all inspired by journey photography from different cities around the world, some of which were taken in my city: London. Obviously, I cannot choose to travel wherever I want for my photography experiments therefore I will be taking a series of photos in the city I live in and another English city I have never been to before. It could be quite interesting to compare these two cities at the end of this experiment. This board has inspired me to the capture the everyday moments such as the daily commute to and from work but also the elements of the city that are unique such as distinctive landmarks and areas.
London
Personally, I feel as though I worked very hard in his project and it is reflected within the outcome. Although it does seem that I have taken a large number of photos, I'm slightly disappointed with the number of photos I have due to the fact that I spent around five hours taking images in my location. Nevertheless, I can only blame myself for this and improve in the future because I actually deleted several photos over the course of the day in fear that they didn't meet the standards I was hoping to achieve. Often, I find that I avoid documenting my mistakes in photography because I'm quite a perfectionist and I always want to display the best possible outcome. However I'm aware this limits me in the sense that it is harder to diagnose the mistakes I repeatedly make and how it is that I achieved the images that I do like. In the future, I will try to prevent this by not deleting a single photograph and then documenting them all.
This is one of my favourite photos from the "London" collage. The murky green water is complimented by small ripples which reflect the scenery and create a sense of motion within the image. In addition, the statue displays dolphins and mermaids which correlates to the aquatic theme.
In the background of the photo, we can see many people dotted around infront of the gallery, along the stairs and by the pond. Although we cannot see the people in detail, I feel as though it adds a nice touch to the image because it displays atmosphere and briskness, something that is often associated with London and it's citizens. It also adds a small splash of colour and a sense of depth.

Brighton
On my trip, I discovered that Brighton is a very unique area that is a great location for photography as it has so much colour and life. As for my collection as a whole, I tried to include different locations such as restaurants, beaches and streets to gain as much of an insight of the city that I could. This gave me plenty of oppurtunies to collect images in a range of different lightings and styles within my overnight stay. I tried to absorb everything I was seeing and I was constantly observing everything in my path to seek oppurtunities to take more photographs, in fact, I found it really fun. One thing I found in Brighton that stood out to me was the tremendous amount of graffiti. In London we certainly have graffiti but unless you're in Brick Lane, it tends to look like my little sisters merely scribbled on the wall. However, in Brighton the graffiti actually supplemented the style of the city and in my opinion it really improved the location from a tourist perspective. I really tried to make use of this and it wasn't hard considering there was amazing art on every street corner.
This particular photograph stands out to me because of the colour scheme. I like how there is a wide range of bright colours from the blue horizon to the red and yellow flashing fairground lights. The sun creates a variety of harsh shadows that make the photographs appear three dimensional.
The sky fades from deep blue to the fluffy white clouds which amplify and create a contrast with the sharp horizon. People are in both the foreground and background and add life to the image. One thing that captures my attention is the impact of the straight harsh lines feautured in the photo both man-made and natural.

Nick Waplington:
Nick Waplington is a British photographer who documents the journey of life through his work. I chose the pictures displayed above because I feel like they most accurately capture everyday lives and the importance of family. Although the pictures may have no meaning to somebody, to someone else it could potentially be their whole world in a single picture. I personally find this idea interesting because as the viewer we are left with so much room to interpret the stories shown in the image, although we will never really know without asking the people in the image.
Seeing people at their most comfortable, with family and friends, is something extremely personal. These are the moments when people are their most true and honest selves, so to even have a glance at this is very valuable to me.

This photo stands out to me because of how cheerful everyone in the photograph looks. In the foreground of the image we can see what appears to be a mother playing with her children while their faces light up with laughter. They seem to be in their home, and in the background we can see some furniture and unfinished paintwork on the walls. I think Waplington really delightfully captures personal moments in peoples lives.
Lee Friedlander:
Lee Friedlander's photographs are exquisite. I absolutely love his use of black and white in his images and the way he composes them. Furthermore, his photos often include types of transportation, which may suggest that they represent a story or journey. He takes his photos in urban locations throughout the USA which often include store fronts, buildings, bars and landmarks. Almost all of his images are in black and white which although this is something I don't use to often when taking my images, I think this compliments his photographs very well and has definitely encouraged me to do so in the near future.
Journey images: edited
As a result of looking at Lee Friedlander's images, it inspired me to edit my own journey images but to edit them using photo shop to generate the desired effect. In my personal opinion I would say this was successful, they still link to the original journey theme but now they have a darker and more sinister atmosphere. I think I like the images better like this and I definitely learned that I should be less cautious when it comes to experimentation within my work.
I would say my favourite photograph out of these six would probably be the photo taken on the bus. The reason that this image stands out to me is because it has been taken on transportation, therefore it symbolises a journey within itself. The viewer doesn't know where the bus i going, they don't know where it came from and they don't even know what time of day it is. However, I think this is nice as it leaves room for interpretation and allows the viewer to be inquisitive and answer their questions however they may desire.
